Global warming is an issue that will increasingly affect all Australians. We recognise our responsibility to minimise our impact on the environment and promote environmental sustainability for future generations.
The Boathouse Resort is implementing a range of energy, water and waste saving initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint. Over the past 2 years The Boathouse Resort has undergone an exhaustive on-site energy emissions audit carried out by STS Services. Working together with STS Services the Boathouse has been able to achieve the following results.
Following the Audit recommendations done by STS Services, the Energy Efficient measures we made on our pool involved a solar pool heater and energy efficient pumps, reducing our house power energy consumption by 30%. This has meant a saving of 50 tonnes of CO2 per year. Recently we completed the second stage of STS’s recommendations by fitting energy efficient lights and installing a 20 kW solar PV system reducing our consumption by a further 20%, saving a further 33 tonnes of CO2 per year. That is a total of 83 tonnes of green house gas emission saved by the Boathouse Resort in Tea Gardens a year; due to these efforts and our investment we have saved the equivalent of 14 Australian household’s power usage in a year. That adds up to an approximate dollar energy saving of up to $10,000 a year!
We are also proud to be a Great Lakes Sustainable Business Partner where we network with local small businesses in relation to improving our sustainability. Our efforts have also been noted by AAA Tourism and we have been Eco-Friendly STAR Accredited for implementing Environmentally Friendly Practices.
